Who is Jackie Marquette?
Jackie is an
author, researcher, consultant, and speaker. She specializes in adolescents
and young adults with ASD and other developmental disabilities. She wrote
Independence Bound and Becoming Remarkably Able: Walking the Path to
Independence and Beyond, (spring 2007 by Autism Asperger’s Publishing
Co.) She supervised and established paid jobs in the community for students
with mild and severe disabilities for the Hardin County School District in
Kentucky. She taught students with various disabilities and consulted for 20
years. In 1997-1999 Jackie spearheaded the ACT Project in Kentucky that
established employment supports for young adults with ASD. Trent, her son,
has autism, has been employed for over 6 years, and has lived independently
for more than 6 years “with creative community supports”. Jackie is
currently a PH.D candidate at the University of Louisville where her
dissertation explored 1) how families guided young adults with ASD to live
independently, and 2) created an assessment scale CAIS © to measure
a person’s capability and independence. Trent, Jackie and her husband
started Trent's
Prints LLC, a company that publishes reproductions and sells Trent Altman’s
original art. |
